Homemade Cherry Ice Cream
I tried making cherry ice cream for the first time last week- a request for my oldest daughter's 6th birthday. It was such a hit that she wanted me to make it AGAIN for her 'school friends' party today. A hit there, too- not that a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds are too picky about homemade ice cream flavors.
recipe:
Add to your favorite vanilla ice cream recipe:
1 jar of maraschino cherries (16 oz); I add all the 'juice' (and I use the term loosely- by 'juice' I mostly mean high fructose corn syrup and red dye) and chop all of the cherries into small pieces.
As many fresh cherries as you can stand to stem and pit, cut into small pieces as well.
The color of this ice cream is a divine light pink; tons of cherry pieces (and the combo of fresh and maraschino is so tasty). Delicious all the way around. Not particularly revolutionary, but I often find that the flavors I want to create, I can't find a recipe for. So I'm wingin' it.
